Methods of Monitoring of Sewerage Pumping Stations (on the example of SPS № 10 of the St. Petersburg’s water disposal system)

Summary

Methods of the monitoring of sewerage pumping stations tested at the SPS № 10 of St. Petersburg are presented. These methods allow to determine (taking into account the changes in the receiving tank – pumps – network system during the operation) technological characteristics of reliability of the pumping station operation necessary for selection of pumps and substantiation of power saving decision at reconstruction.

Analysis of Electric Power Losses in the Course of Operation of a Group of Pumps Equipped with Adjustable Drive

Summary

Calculations of the power losses in pump units with aggregates operating simultaneously, one of them is adjustable, are presented. The main advantage of a control scheme with one adjustable pump is a relatively low cost of an apparatus part. But additional power losses connected with reduction of rotation frequency of a pump impeller of the adjustable pump in the course of operation of unregulated pumps under conditions of maximum output are unavoidable. Calculations of these losses made with the use of vector diagrams of hydraulic capacity of pumps make it possible to develop a structure of a power efficient pumping unut characterized by acceptable cost of equipment and minimal power expenditures to maintain the preset pressure in a pressure line.

Water Disinfection with Weak Sodium Hypochlorite at Water Supply Stations of St. Petersburg

Summary

The method of water disinfection with sodium hypochlorite produced from common salt solution using the electrolysis method at the place of use has been introduced at two largest water supply stations, Southern and Northern, of St. Petersburg. The use of sodium hypochlorite of low concentration makes it possible to avoid the necessity of transportation and long-term storage of a ready solution. The technology introduced makes it possible to minimize considerably the risk existing in the case of the use of liquefied chlorine and reduce the operation expenses comparing with strong solutions of sodium hypochlorite.

Methods of Assessment of Technical State and Residual Resource of Pipelines of the Moscow Water Supply and Sewerage Networks

Summary

The goal of investigation of water supply and sewerage systems of Moscow conducted by the Center of technical diagnostics of MGUP Mosvodokanal is the assessment of technical state of networks and development of recommendations for their further operation, reconstruction and relaying. Methods of the complex diagnostics of steel pipelines of water supply network in manifolds, pumping stations’ piping, underground pipelines laid in soil and steel pipelines of pressure sewerage network have been developed. When determining the time of possible safety operation of pipelines of water supply and sewerage networks, these methods make it possible to take into account all types of the most intensive influences contributing mainly to formation of stressed-deformation state that improves technical validity and reliability of results obtained.

Device of Proportional Dozing of Reagents for Water Supply Systems

Summary

Devices of the dozing of reagents (complexions) making it possible to reduce expenses for water treatment, reduce the rate of pipelines corrosion, remove salt sediments from inner surfaces of pipes and heat exchanging apparatuses are used widely in the last years at boilers, heat supply systems and hot water supply systems. Shortcomings of ejection and injection systems of reagents dozing are described. A device ensuring the permanent pressure control in a pipeline where dozing is carried out and limiting the maximum time between the introductions of regular dozes of reagent is proposed.

Comparative Evaluation of Ultrafiltration Plant at Treatment of Water of Lake Ladozhskoye and Aftertreatment of the Neva’s City Water.

Summary

The comparative evaluation of operation of two industrial ultrafiltration plants with the same design and output and intended for treatment of water from one source is made. The practical experience of operation shows that the restoration of operational characteristics of membrane operating in water containing a bulk of polluting substances (taken from Lake Ladozhskoye directly) takes place according to standard methodology with the use of alkali solution of sodium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid. The use of these reagents for restoration of operational characteristics of membranes aftertreating Lake Ladozhskoye water after their preliminary treatment at city water supply facilities of St. Petersburg (the Neva’s city water) was inefficient. Results of the study aimed at determination of reasons for rapid pollution of ultrafiltration membranes operating at aftertreatment of the Neva’s city water as well as methods developed for restoration of their operational characteristics are presented.

Practical Method of Hydraulic Design of Water Disposal Networks at Partial Filling of Pipeline

Summary

A simplified practical method of hydraulic calculation of water disposal networks ensuring the satisfactory accuracy and foreseeing (at values of wastewater flow rates and pipeline pitch known in the general case) the possibility to calculate a design diameter of pipes, wastewater flow rate, level of pipeline’s filling is proposed.
